Saturday May 24th, 2003  - Ballina, NSW, Australia

2003  Trans Tasman Challenge

Australia v NZ

Day 3 - Longhaul & Surfcross

The longhaul saw the boats racing in reasonably flat conditions with a very small chop and some glassy sections further out. The first 3 laps saw Team Aquarius Racing (NZ) and GO (Aus) competing side by side with both having equal boat speed. The surf was still a trial for the boats to get in and out of with their big pitch props but all managed without incident.

Points awarded for Saturday's long-haul;

New Zealand 2901 - Australia 2114

We ran 9 heats in the surfcross with a shortened course, the course around 'B' buoy saw HUGE curling dumpers which flipped a number of boats from both teams.

Points awarded for Saturday's surf-cross;

New Zealand 1817 - Australia 1628

Tomorrow will be just 6 heats surfcross so the Kiwi's have ample time to pack the container.  As Team Manager I am proud to say we have a strong professional team who have conducted themselves with pride and good sportsmanship.
