August 24, 2002 - Whangamata Beach
It was great to have 14
boats turn up to the cold, clear but flat conditions eager to
race. Several of our guys & girls volunteered for marshalling
& scoring - many thanks to them.
Surprise surprise James & Mike arrived with
their new grey Kamikaze boat and enjoyed the flat conditions while
they lasted. Later in the day they found the lumps &
bumps a bit hard on their bums & bodies.
Paul & Cam managed to flip their BBS
Timbers boat in flatter than flat conditions (who's looking for
the flipper of the year award then??). This ended up being a 'bad
day at the office' for them.
Derek & Ashley managed to both step out of
James new boat around D buoy and were relieved to see it remained
right-side up!
Only a few points separated the top boats
creating good competition even if the conditions were tame.
Four boats shared the No1 spot throughout the day - 'Armour
Linings' 4 firsts, 'Kamikaze' 3, 'Team Aquarius Racing' 3,
'Shiners Car Valet' 1 and 'Eta Ripples' consistent with four 2nd
places. (I have to ask - did Stacey fall out of the boat in
the last lap of the final? It was so quick I don't think
Stacey even got wet?) Note: If the RD & marshals missed
it - it didn't happen. But a good story never the less &
got a few laughs at the Palms Pacific Tavern later in the
day.

The Rock FM boat competed well
first time out with a third placing in the 5th heat. Great
effort guys glad to have you in our club. Well done also to
Matt switching from co-pilot to pilot for the day in 'Dark Dog'.
Thanks to all helpers and competitors for making my
job easy on the day.
