Orewa Beach, Auckland 18th September 2005 Our first meeting of the season held at Orewa found all boats against some fun but extremely ruff, windy conditions. The day starting badly for the Quicken crew as they felt the water temperature rather early on in the day after flipping there boat before the first race had even started.
Two new boats – Dickies and House of Travel with their first race had some tuff competition and bad weather to contend with but seemed to handle these condition in fine form. With only the first race of the day House of travel made a grand entry into the water – but guys I’m sure every one had done it at some stage.
It doesn’t really matter how experienced you are in these condition some times it is beyond your control - we just need to look at the More FM crew for bad days racing I guess. With Tony turning up to the beach and his boat not going just started to a bad day for the team. More FM then borrowed boats and the luck continued as he flipped PCI’s boat. With the weather at it’s worst we cut the day down to 2 races each for the boats and crew members safety and for the teams that made the day that far we finished with a final race and a spectacular display from the More FM crew as they managed to fly over the top of the Waikato Finance boat which had flipped in front of there path. We understand that More FM had no idea that they had flipped and where in the water in front of them, but the unlucky crew of Waikato Finance found them selves with a popped boat in bad condition. To the end of the day we would like to say a huge thank you to all help on the beach as it was not nice to be standing in pouring rain and gale force winds. With no injuries other than a few good bruises we look forward to our next meeting at Pauanui on the 16th of October. Race write-up by our Secretary Leigh Glasgow
