Murawai Beach 13th November 2005
Murawai 13th November 2005
What a beautiful morning, with the sun shining upon us 17 boats arrived at the beach for the first round of the West coast challenge, challenge it turned out to be for sure, it was hard enough to get he buoys set up for a big day in the surf.
Now Couriers with there first ever race day found the water temperature cold after flipping the boat in there warm up and never got to finish a race after all.
Quicken (Dougal & Rory) what happened you didn’t even take the boat off the trailer?
The first heat with 8 boats it wasn’t long before one crew lost their co-pilot and then the boats began to flip, fly and get thrown around in the surf.
With the attempts of restarting the race this was found that the condition’s where turning ugly as the wind got stronger, the rain came down and the boats went up.
The second heat was near a disaster as 3 boats went up side down and the buoys weren’t visible for the crews to follow the race course and the day was called off.
Well done to the new crews for getting out and having a go, you will love the next race meeting.
Thank you to all the people that helped out on the day especially to Greg (injured Jungle Coffee crew member) for being RD for the day – he couldn’t have got a worse day for the first time as RD, but he coped extremely well and we all hope that you will one day help us out again.
Let’s hope for a fine lovely day at Mangawhai on the 27th November – See you all there.
