Today was the 4th and Final Round of the NZ Surfcross Championship....so you'd expect scrutineering at 8.30am to be a tense time as the guys prepared their boats and themselves for the crucial final races......but the atmosphere was very laid back and relaxed....so.......

Racing finally got underway at 11.45am, probably our latest start of the season but no one seemed to be in any particular hurry.

The surf was about 1 and 1/2 metres with the odd 2metre+ standing on the back lines, the on shore wind picked up a few times during the day causing the guys a few problems as they headed out to B-Buoy.

First flip of the day went to our favourite contenders for 'The Flipper of the Year Award', House of Travel, then followed by Now Couriers, Lowrance Matrix, Toyo Tyres

The strong on-shore wind made it tricky heading out to B-Buoy, as the boats cleared the top of the waves the wind would lift the nose and turn the boat anti-clockwise, just about all of the flips were because of this and the 2 Steve's in Plumbquick once again providing the best jumps of the day.

This part of Raglan Beach has a lot of sand bars and holes which made the Le Mans starts tricky trying to find a stretch of water where everyone was standing in the same depth water.

But what caused the most excitement was the finish line, the tide would wash out a long way so one second our finish flags were knee deep in water and then the next moment there was a 30 metre run.....and run they did, a lot of places were lost and gained on the run up the beach, fastest sprinter had to be Matt from the MORE FM boat, he was STEAMING up that beach and ran down anyone in front of him.

Our B-Graders were slotted into the outside grids with the A-Graders, once again you guys handled yourselves exceptionally well, mostly managing to stay out of trouble :)

Once again thanks to our Officials and Marshals, Steve Frogley for organising the gear trailer, the scrutineering and the beach setup, Leigh and Elle and a warm welcome back to Corinne for handling the scoring and points, Rhelda and co handing out finish tickets, Gary as our starter and Kev as Assistant RD and our volunteer on D-Buoy (sorry I forgot your name) and I would like to say thank you to most of you for making my job as RD a pleasant one.

This weekend we are in Wellington, only a 9 hour drive from Auckland so I guess we'll hook up somewhere on the road down. Sounds like a lot of us are leaving on Friday morning, breakfast in Hamilton sounds good.
