Overall Winner for the Weekend FUJITSU HEATPUMPS

It was great to see a turnout of 25 boats for a club day and encouraging to see the enthusiasm of the new crews to the sport. Despite the fact there were 2 injuries (as seen on TV) within the first bracket of heats, racing for the rest of the day was efficient but uneventful.

All boats were so evenly matched there was no room for error at the start and it was the slick work of rookies Fujitsu, (Gareth Wing and Stu ?) and the more experienced crews of Tahitian dark rum (Mark Ross and Robbie Glen) and Reaction Screen print (Brent McConnell and Stacey Aitken) which resulted in  1st 2nd and 3rd places respectively for the day.

Those who attended the after match cocktail party were fortunate to receive their medals from the CSI promo girls.

These girls were hired by their generous sponsor (Anthony from CSI) to support the CSI boys (and to distract the other teams) on the day.

The good news was that both injured parties, Tony Vercauteren (MORE FM) with a severe bump to the head )and Darren Jessop (Spaceships) with a nose cone to the head and a prop guard to his arse were both able to make it to the prize giving that evening.

Sunday morning saw a few hangovers and a 46km surf sprint down to Parkiri and return. Some of the new crews showed their speed in a long haul race (although some also flipped) but the eventual winner was Fujitsu who also won the gold medal for the weekend. Second in the sprint was ruff rider (also rookies) and third was More FM with a stand in driver Dave Davis.

Thanks for the weekend must go to Tony and Hannah for organizing a great weekend, AJ for a great job as RD, Gary and Alison Morrison as Marshals, Sandra Davis our Race secretary and lap scorer, Trudi (from Dickies) as our ever helpful nurse, Barry from Inflatable Boat Repairs for his behind the scenes work and Matt and Amanda Coyne (PCI Electrical) for offering their house (bad move) for the after match party.

It is also great to have this year a mixture of young and old crews plus many families and supporters on the beach.

Next race is at Raglan on Saturday December 2 which should definitely promise surf.
