Nineteen boats
fronted up to Raglan for the first round of the West coast
challenge. And surf there was! Racing began at 11am with surf
running at 3-4 ft with the odd 6ft set creating a challenge for
some of the new crews. Remarkably no one flipped in the first 2
brackets of heats. As a long course was set to cope with the
outgoing tide the races were run over 4 laps and then eventually
shortened to 3.
The big event of
the day was CSI winning their first race and showing some class in
the surf.
Despite no flips
in the morning the afternoon was a different story with several
boats going over in the blustery winds.
Winner of the day
was Plumbquick with a stand in copilot (Jonno
ex co pilot for Diesel) who is keen to offer his services this
season.
Second place went
to Ruff rider who remarkably had never been in surf yet proved too
strong for some of the more experienced crews.
