1.  Question

Can we race with Carbon floorboards?

    Answer

If your or their boats are produced with carbon fibre floorboards that is ok. But they still have to come up to boat weight ie: 75 kilos min UIM 2007 561 classes P750 page 217

2.  Question

Are you going to guarantee that all boats will not be tampered with?

    Answer

Security will be provided on site

3.  Question

What happens if we want to pull the motor down and re ring etc?

    Answer

This  will be included in the Race instructions

4.  Question

So are we allowed to run all D1 or all D2 or just D2?

    Answer

Yes M50 D and the M50D2 but there will be no mixing of parts

5.  Question

Are we going to be able to race with  a Yamaha engine at the Worlds?

    Answer

No the Yamaha 50 engine is not homologated

6.  Question

Are you allowed to machine the back of the cylinderhead to achieve correct CC's on the D2 head?  It has come to my attention that certain individuals are bending the D2 head so that the middle cylinder combution chamber will be machined first in order to get all 3 cylinders to the same cc rating.  The head is then turned around and remachined on the back to get it straight for the waterjacket cover to fit properly.  If you do not know about this you will not find it.  How will you prove this is being done?  As there is no specific measurement to check the thickness of the head.

    Answer

This will be checked at the World Championship and stamped out!

7.  Question

I own 2 that came from the factory that came with 130 main jets.  I have a Tohatsu workshop manual to prove this.  Am I allowed to race this motor in this form?

    Answer

We have looked at the Tohatsu parts manual supplied directly from Tohatsu showing that the M50D has - main  jet 135 x 3.

8.  Question

Can I rebore carb throat to reach specified dimention?

    Answer

If there is a measurment

9.  Question

Parts like flywheel, pistons, crankshafts have minimum weights - in what form of machining do we attain the minimum weight?

    Answer

Buy the lightest one from the factory

10.  Question

If we are not allowed to drill the flywheel, pistons and crank are we are allowed any other form of machining?

    Answer

Only one is to deck the block to the measurement given and do not touch anything else unless stated

11.  Question

If the homologation papers state a measurement can that part be blueprinted to those measurments?

    Answer

No blue printing but you can work within the tolerences provided in the homologation sheets but using all P750 UIM rules for sole modifications read 563.09 item 20. If there is not a measurement or does not state a rule dont touch

12.  Question

The orginal chopper prop with re-manufacture through hub exhaust - is it allowed to use.

    Answer

Any 3 blade prop can be used as long as it originated from a source as a through hub prop. We will not accept a prop that has started its life as an over hub and has been fabricated into a through hub! Please look at rule 563.09 item 2 (check your minimum measurements for the props) the 2007 UIM P750 rules are on the UIM web-site under circuit rules 560.

12.  Question

What are the limitation for modifications on manufactured through hub exhaust prop? Im not talking about vent holes and slots - refering blade shapes, angles and sizes..

    Answer

Reference to blade angle shapes and sizes - Free, but you cant add spacers between the prop and gearbox.

13.  Question

Regarding head volumes, what fluid mix will be used to do the measurments

    Answer

This will be explained at measuring if required!

14.  Question

What type of fuel will be supply..?

    Answer

Unleaded max 97octane notification of designated supplier to be released with race instructions shortly.

15.  Question

Will the carbon built up be removed from the crown of the piston and combustion chamber before measuring?

    Answer

No only wiped clean

16.  Question

No work can be done to ports is that right?

    Answer

Dont touch them

(added 14th Dec 2006)

Hi Guys

Here is the up to date list as per the World Championship today 15.00 hours UK time. At this time we are still in the dark whether there will be entries from Australia?

Thank you for all your help and cooperation with getting teams to enter early, we are sending them a profile and media form so we can organise pre-event local media hype for the teams locally...

What do you think?

  1. The main authorities or local clubs holding a returnable entry fee confirming teams entries to the Worlds, when the teams boat is in the container they get their deposit back, the cost does not have to be much but enough for them to commit. Otherwise we could see teams withdrawing and entries that would like to attend loose their spaces. What is your view on this???

  2. Would it be possible for you to put the Shippers logo and link www.psap.co.uk on your websites they have asked if this would be possible. Plus if you feel it would be suitable the 3 Scarborough logos... this might gee them up to help further.... sorry for being pushy, just got to find a lot of sponsorship and I need their help!! Yorkshire forward, Scarborough council and Scarborough Renaissance

I have included the forms again,

With much appreciation

Fiona

Subject: FW: Questions for worlds in UK

Hi Mike

can you send these on to Fiona please as Question regarding the Worlds In England

Dear Fiona,

At a meeting held by the individuals looking to be involved in  the worlds  the following questions arise.

Fiona's answers to our questions in Red below.

1, Confirming the Motors are standard (you can machine to homologated specs on head and block).  We can also run the D model exhaust and head. (This concerns some people because they are not commercially available anymore so some teams will miss out).

Can you advise a full set of the motor specifications as required for both Tohatsu and Yamaha.

The homologation specs come from the UIM re: Circuit rules 560

Preferably some of us would like our motors measured before we start racing, just in case the measuring system is different, would this be possible.  YES

2, Transport, if we can have more details of the container, or would you like to give us a contact for us to organise.  When will it be leaving, where does it land etc.  How far is the fresh water lake and surf beach from where the container will be?  Will we need trailers to get our boats to any venues?  Will we need rental cars to get about?

Auckland to Sheerness near Dover, then transported to Scarborough. You will have the container to pack at the docks prior, it will take 31 - 35 days and 5 days to clear customs and arrive at Scarborough on Wednesday 30th May. The container will arrive and when you are all there, you will have to unloaded and then it will leave, it will come back to be packed by yourselves on Monday 11th, then sealed to leave. We need you to pack and unpack so you know nothing has been taken, it gets sealed each end. Each team will have to have their own goods insured we will not be responsible for insurance.

The Fresh water lake we think is going to be Castle Howard which is a stately home about 40 mins from Scarborough. The long haul and surf are at the same event South Bay beach. South Bay is where your container will arrive and where the 1st and last events will be staged. Race control and the main organisational setup will be at South Bay.  We are going to organise transportation for you toget boats to circuit events unless maybe if there is room to put one or two it could be useful. As for hiring cars... this is up to you, I am sure we could organise a big bus to bring you to Scarborough if you gave me a rough time of where and when you are arriving.....
Flights: Heathrow, Manchester, Luton or Stanstead are better than Gatwick to fly into, then you can either get a connecting flight to Leeds/Bradford which is an hour from Scarborough or if you all fly in together youcould hire a mini bus and use it for the period you are here. I will be trying to get sponsored rates for hire cars... its on my list of things to do.....

3, Insurance, are we covered by any sort of accident and or liability insurance while racing at the worlds?  What sort of other insurance do you recommend?

The RYA insurance covers the event for 5 million on the water and 10 million off the water third party liability. This does not cover insurance between raceboat to raceboat there is no insurance for that. We have our National Health in the UK where anyone injured will go but this wont include if you need to be flown home so you need some sort of personal holiday type insurance. You need to check into this.  Everyone will need to have third party so as soon as I get the exact quote I will be able to inform everyone... it will not be loads.

4, Accommodation, Could we have a range of different types of accommodation and pricing that will be available.  Is there going to be any subsidised accommodation?

This we are working on at present.

5, T.V. coverage, will it be filmed and will the teams from NZ be given a copy of the event for broadcast in NZ or private viewing?

Will we have access to the raw footage for use in NZ.?

We are look at the possibility of bring our own film crew , is this an issue?

Filming we are dealing with at present but everyone will be given copies and if you bring your own film crew please let me have their details and I will try and help them the best I can..... more the merrier we need to develop our sport worldwide... fantastic

6 Will the basic race rules be the same as SA?  Starting/finishes of the races be the same.  Manager per team for briefing,

The worlds is an individual championship but every country should have a representative, also we need someone from each country to go on the jury but jury members must not have relatives racing. Starts and finishes will be stated in the advance race instructions but as per UIM rules

7, Do we need any sort of marine licence to operate a boat in UK, when not racing?

No. You must have knowledge of the by-laws and speed limits, you can ask any of the Brits, me or the Harbour master

8/ We would like the deatails regarding course dimensions for all disciplines please.

Please can you wait till advance race instructions - all will be on it, but as near to UIM spec

Look forward to seeing you at the event, We have about 9 crews currently with huge interest in this event and as this unfolds we will keep you informed.

The South African's have filled their container already , 20 SA and 3 Namibian, although I have opened it up so SAIBA cant choose all their best, its an individual sport event and it has been done on those who send their entry forms back first get the free transportation. I have received 2 entries from NZ already - Fantastic.  What about the Australians do you think they might come?

From the Thundercat UK Website

Entries for the World Championship are coming in thick and fast…

South Africa have nearly filled there quota for their container – everyone who would like to enter please get your entries in as soon as possible so we are able to finish off the final planning and preparation procedure!

Everyone is excited about this extreme, exciting, prestigious event – set for lots of coverage and spectators..

Hope to see you all there!!

I personally wish to thank our Global Community for the fantastic emails I have received from people in different countries around the world!

Volunteers asking whether they can help us at the World Championships! As far a field as Australia, New Zealand and South Africa offering their knowledge, experience and help. It makes me proud to be a small part in such a large environment!

The Southern hemisphere are now in their season's racing and we wish them all good luck,

we are looking forward to seeing everyone who can make it in the UK next June.  The entry forms only went out last week and already the South African container is nearly full, Good news to hear that we might have a strong force of contenders from Australia and New Zealand. Sweden have got some excellent racers training to come over, France, Spain and Germany are rapidly on their toes trying to get everything organised so they too can be part of what looks to be the largest ever World Championship to hit Thundercats by storm. We have now secured the help of Jane Jardine, Scottish born with a twist of South African (as she now lives there) to be OOD at the event, although she will have the help of many others to create fair and safe racing.  There will be representation from each Country helping with the race organisation so our global community will all enjoy the racing and feel that it is each and everyone's event not just the UK
