Aristotles Motor Inn, North Shore

Present:                                        Kerry Wood, Gary Morrison, Tony Vercauteren, Craig Sutherland, Willy Herbert, Keith Worboys, Rod Klaassen, Ric Dunn, Zane Randle, Anthony Coombs, Wayne Powell

Apologies:                                   Anthony Park, Steve Morrison, Steve Frogley, Sandra Davies, Brent McConnell, Diesel McConnell

Financials:                                   Kerry presented current accounts, 07/08 budget and race venue costings.  Discussion centered on the opportunity for the club to be more professional this year in targeting grants (Sandra & Gary handling) and to look at further fundraising opportunities.  Craig raised the issue of potential sponsors for races outside of the national series and volunteered to work with the subcommittee to be formed to target fundraising.

Kerry commented that the committee would accept the conversation as a tentative mandate to work towards the draft budget.

Ric requested it be noted that he was against the budgetary mandate as he interpreted that as a mandate to spend prior to sourcing the funding.

Gary responded on behalf of the committee that as prudent business managers, normal business responsibility would be adhered to.

Race Calendar:                             Kerry presented race calendar and it was noted that Mangawhai long haul should read from Auckland to Mangawhai.

The only boat confirmed for the first Wellington event is Fujitsu.

Correspondence:   1)                   Kerry tabled an email received on the same date from Thundercat Racing Australia suggesting an international competition in the Gold Coast in October 2008.

Following discussion it was agreed that TRANZ would respond indicating strong interest but requesting confirmation of pertinent details such as:

                                                    ?  Actual location

                                                    ?  Actual dates

                                                    ?  Confirmation re permits

?  Confirmation that officials and equipment will be arranged

Rod volunteered to support a subcommittee if formed.

                              2)                   Kerry made reference to recent email correspondence (copies available) originating from an email from Wal Dobrow seeking to establish a new class under the UIM to enable world events.

TRANZ issued a statement on the 20th September 2007 to the appropriate world bodies stating that there had been no commitment by TRANZ to support this or the possible adoption of “RORTI” rules.

The committee is seeking a mandate to form a sub committee to work on standards for international racing.  Ric advised that RORTI rules are to be discussed at the next UIM meeting in Turkey and therefore proposed the following resolution:

‘TRANZ does not support for discussion nor consideration the RORTI RULES 2007 as sent by Wal Dobrow to Tony Walsh, President of Aus.PBA for presentation to the UIM GA to be held in Turkey.’

The resolution was seconded by Tony and passed unanimously.

                                                    Kerry proposed the following resolution:

‘The committee be powered to establish a subcommittee mandated to discuss current international rules and recommend possible changes’.

Seconded by Rod and passed unanimously.

                                                    Ric proposed the following resolution:

‘For reasons of conflict of interest, a person involved or associated with boat racing not sanctioned and recognized by TRANZ will not be given authority to speak or act on behalf of TRANZ in regard to International boat racing or International race rules.’

After considerable discussion the proposal was seconded by Rod but the motion was lost.

                               3)                  Kerry confirmed that the bridge to bridge race is on the 27th October.  Ric advises that all racers must have a water ski license for the day.  These can be obtained free of charge on the day.  Without a license, racers will not be insured.

General Business: 1)                    Engine Sealing

Consensus that a day should be set up before the 8th December to allow all crews to have engines sealed.

                              2)                   Race Licenses

Kerry confirmed that four race days must be completed to race in the nationals.

                              3)                   Engine Stripping

Kerry advised that it is intended to strip the motors of 1st and 2nd place getters plus a random selection.

                               4)                  P750 Motors

Ric commented that racing P750 motors is cheaper than TRANZ motors.

Meeting closed 8.40pm
