Orewa Beach- Clubday

Orewa club day started with 16 entries of which 8 were brand new crews who had never raced before plus the return of old racers Kelvin Kay and Paul Collins, plus Kerry Wood and Russell Lichtwarke both back from injury all trying to make a comeback.

Racing got underway on time at 11am and was into a 1/2m chop with a 15kn easterly (onshore) wind. Dominant boats in the first few heats were many of the current crews but with “old boy” Kelvin Kay showing some true form.

The new crews no doubt found it a great learning experience with fortunately only one flip in the small chop, but by the end of heat 8 most were happy to call it a day. The final was run with the top 10 boats and the eventual winner on the day was Novotec followed by Kelvin Kay in second place and Kiwi Safety in third.

It was great to see many of the new crews with all their supporters plus some female copilots in lasermark and kiwi safety (who are much better looking than the copilots they replace)

Also notable was the family involvement as always from Zee Coffee with Dave racing and Graeme and Lynne always on the beach helping, plus Kiwi Safety with Gary and Becky racing, John standing in as Plumbquick copilot and Alex assistant to RD Gary Morrison as starter.

Thanks to all marshalls and supporters
