Waihi Beach- Clubday

Seventeen boats entered for the last surfcross race of the 07/08 season.

Surf consisted of a messy easterly wind swell which proved to be testing and hard on competitors and equipment. Racing commenced at 11am and after the first few rounds there was already a high rate of attrition. Robert Page Engineering retired after smashing the engine bracket on a nasty wave, Hell Pizza broke floorboards, Yokohama retired with a broken motor and More FM, Spaceships and Mission all suffered misfires and opted to pull out. Later Stingray was to flip as did Quicken who was piloted by learner driver Anthony Coombes with Zane the sprinter as copilot. Notable on the day was the presence of female copilots in Fusion, Hells Pizza and Kiwi Safety who all did well considering the conditions of the day which were hard on copilots let alone the overly long sprint up the beach which Sarah, from the UK, racing in Fusion found to her disadvantage (twice).

By Round 5 of the heats there were only 10 boats left so it then became the final with Plumbquick taking out the day followed by Fusion, Aquacat, Jungle Coffee then Novo Engineering
