Titahi Bay- Wellington

The Capital turned on a great day for the first WGTN club race of the season held at Titahi Bay on Sunday. Warm sunny conditions, a slight cross wind and 2-3 foot swell made for a great Surfcross event. Big thanks to our new wellington based Race Director Jo Lundon and to Gary Morrison for coming down to train her up, the day ran fast, smooth and very successful so well done! Winner of the day was Demon Energy Black closely followed by Gemini Blue. Demon Energy Red may have been more successful had they stuck to the rules rather than missing a buoy, cutting another buoy in half by running it straight over and also completing more laps than anyone else for no apparent reason. With the only disappointment being the unavoidable absence of our club sensei Reece, this was a great start to the wellington season.

(added 18th Aug 2008)

Hi All,

Please see below an update on my actions from our committee meeting and a few items raised at the WGTN club meeting.

Auction Night – Wellington members will do their best to get involved, a few members expressed they may be able to provide items to be auctioned. Impractical for all members to attend, all members putting in to send a couple of WGTN representatives on the night who can bid on our behalf.

Club day cost – WGTN members have agreed to double entry fees for WGTN club days to $100. This should cover costs of permits and flights for RD. We would like to review this again once we have more members or a WGTN based RD.

Permits – Reece will coordinate the permits for WGTN club days. He will also work with Kyle to complete the Lyall Bay nationals permit. I will approach my contact at the Dom Post re getting free adverts. WGTN members have agreed to advertise Dom Post on their boats in return from advertising.

Race Calendar – I have attached the WGTN race calendar. Rod – Can you please post this on the website as long as the committee has no objections? After discussion the WGTN members agreed that if would not be fair on Auckland members to include all WGTN club day points in the Auckland tally but would like to have points from WGTN cup Day included.

Wellington Cup Day – In an attempt to increase our profile and attract some Auckland’ers down for a club day we want to create a Trophy event. Caltex S/V will purchase a trophy and provide a prize for the winner to be presented at the end of year club prize giving. We wish to hold the event at Lyall Bay prior to nationals as this may encourage those who want to gain a competitive advantage for nationals. To further attract entrants I ask TRANZ to reduce the entry fee to $20 for boats outside of the WGTN area. WGTN club members would help subsidise this by paying $100 entry fee per WGTN boat. Can this please be tabled for discussion at our next committee meeting?

Cheers,

Chris
