Rounds 5 & 6

17th - 18th June 2017

Gwynedd’s county town, home to Wales’s most famous castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mighty Caernarfon Castle commands the lion’s share of attention, surrounded by the town’s narrow streets and stylishly redeveloped waterfront. The castle was built in the 13th century by Edward I, as a royal palace and military fortress, it was at the core of the medieval walled town. The Romans left their mark too – 1000 years earlier they constructed their fort of Segontium on the hill above (its foundations still exist). Other attractions include Welsh Highland Railway (which runs for 25 miles to Porthmadog), Hwylfan Fun Centre, Redline Indoor Karting, scenic Lôn Eifion recreational cycle route and RIB rides along Menai Strait. Waterside Doc Fictoria is home to Galeri (contemporary arts complex with theatre and cinema).

On Sunday 18th there will be a TRUE Challenge.. Team Endeavour (our veteran racers) competing against The Royal Welsh.  Fiona Pascoe Event Director "TRUE Foundation (Thundercat Racing Uniting Everyone) believes this race will highlight and bring awareness for our 'Recovery Through Sport' program; showing how this adrenaline fuelled, stimulating environment enhances personal develop, inspires and challenges our veterans and civilians in a demanding and difficult time of their lives, whilst in a transition from the Armed Forces to civilian life or civilians with mental or physical issues. ThunderCat Racing offers a secure and rewarding social sporting environment where they can have a sense of belonging, community connection and welfare whist achieving their own goals.  Whilst ThunderCat Racing UK facilitates the opportunities; Team Endeavour with the assistance of The Royal Foundation, Endeavour Trust and Blesma activate and run two veteran race teams within the series; bringing along an entourage of photographers, administrators, engineers and assistants who are all veterans themselves, helping each other to overcome any negatives and enjoy their experience in a positive manner.

The North Wales Armed Forces Day will start with a military parade through the town centre, and will include representatives from all the Armed Forces plus Standard Bearers, Veterans and youth organisations. 3 marching bands will be participating. In addition:
• A Drumhead service, in the shadow of Caernarfon Castle, will immediately follow the parade.
• Static displays from all Arms will be in place across the whole event site, which will be situated along the promenade, allowing the general public to see current equipment, and speak to serving personnel.
• During the day, serving personnel will demonstrate some of their capability through various demonstrations.
• A separate entertainment area will be established where all those attending may enjoy performances from local artists whilst partaking in refreshments.
• Information stands from military charities will be available to offer advice where needed.
It is planned to be a fun day for the public to show their appreciation of Armed Forces personnel, current and past, whilst allowing them to see some of the work the Armed Forces carry out.
