Meet our Fabulous Volunteer Race Officials

Danielle Strawford - Officer of the Day

Danielle has been involved with Powerboat racing for many years. Danielle has agreed to be ThunderCat Racing Uk's OOD for the 2016 season :)

During 2015 Danielle completed her OOD training under Nikki Gray and was invited to be the Deputy Officer of the Day at the P750 UIM World Championships in Malta during October.

Richard Strawford - Rescue Officer

Richard joined ThunderCat Racing for the 2015 season and is pictured here with his daughter Danielle (OOD)

Dave Drew - Chief Marshall & Flag Man
Dave was late into boating due to his love of playing Cricket, he was finally persuaded to buy a Fletcher after attending the boat show. He was introducted into powerboat racing in 2003 after supporting James in the series he was competing in. Together with Andrea they ran 3 teams in the series and were dealership agents for Crownline, Tohatsu and ZC.  In 2006 Dave went to watch ThunderCat Racing at Winfest and was introduced to Fiona, who quickly recognised that Dave was a RYA training instructor, loved the racing, could drive a boat and generally a lovely helpful guy. , so he was invited to be the marshall on the water.  During the next season Dave helped out wherever needed and finally joined as a Race Official during 2008 at Youghall. Chief Marshall since 2009.
Andrea Drew - Chief Lap Counter & Timekeeper

Andrea's first trip out was in a fast boat with a friend taking her out to wave hop the Poole to Cherbourg ferry, and from moment Andrea developed a passion for speed on the water, one of her pride and joys was a Phantom 18 which DB marine blue printed for her.

In 2003 Andrea & Dave went to a boat show where their son James Tapp decided he wanted to race powerboats, he was at Uni at the time and so Andrea & Dave decided they would support James to follow his powerboat racing dream. James and his Uni mates secured a sponsorship for two boats from Crownline and eventually Andrea & Dave took over the Crownline dealership in Weymouth where they sold ZC's and Crownline boats.

As a family they were involved with racing from 2003 to 2007.  In 2008 Andrea & Dave went to an event with ThunderCat Racing at White Air, they offered to help and the rest is history.  Andrea took over the catering when Hilary retired and we have virtually attended every ThunderCat race weekend. Andrea is now a RYA official doing timekeeping and Lap counting; Andrea also is our Lap-Counter & Timekeeper trainer and loves joining in with events as there is a real sense of community and team spirit.

Steve Wallace - Scrutineer

I have been involved with Tundercats as a volunteer for several seasons now and love it, I started as a general helper and soon found lots of other areas to get involved with including safety general coordination and am now a scrutineer.

The team are all fantastic and it really is just like one big family, everyone helps each other to deliver the event and there is always lots of laughter as well as learning new skills.  If you are looking to get involved in an event I can highly recommend it, you feel totally exhausted by the end of the weekend but you always go home with a smile on your face having had lots of fun.

Jerry has 37 years’ experience as a paramedic and is most definitely the calmest most reliable person you could hope to meet.  He has dealt with just about every medical emergency from birth to death and everything in between, nothing phases him and he lives and breathes boats and medical stuff.
