Rounds 1 and 2 of ThunderCat Racing Series Prove a Resounding Success

Fistral Beach, Newquay provided a fantastic location for the start of the ThunderCat Racing series 2017 RYA National Championship. The beautiful Fistral beach provided racers and the public plenty of sun, sand and beautiful blue Atlantic sea to set the scene for the first two rounds of what will be an exciting season of surf racing.

After two days of competition, Magor Racing the 2016 National Champions became the overall ThunderCat winners of the weekend, closely followed by the teams of Multispark Racing and Nationwide Assistance Group. Special recognition should be given to Tom Zierer and Ben Backhouse from Guernsey who achieved their first ever podium place by taking third overall on Sunday.

Whilst high octane action took place on the water, Atlantic FreeStyle Football began the start of their open championship on land competing on the innovate C6(n) stage construction; offering a pitch for the kids to enjoy a game of football, making new friends on the beach.

Race director Fiona Pascoe said, ‘ Big thanks also goes to Dave and Tracey Sheldon from Multispark who organised the weekend's accommodation and Saturday evening party where we celebrated three community birthdays. Huge thanks go to all the volunteers, medical and safety personnel who made such an impact to make the season start with a positive bang. ‘

Next stop for the tour will be Boscombe Beach and Pier on the 20th and 21st May. In addition to the fantastic racing, ATLANTIC FreeStyle Football will be there on Saturday (May 20th) and there will be a special Offshore Powerboat racing competition for the TRUE Foundation on Sunday (May 21st).
