The last race in the RYA ThunderCat Racing Championship will be held on the beautiful beach of Perranporth between the 30th September and 1st October 2017. Perranporth nestles beautifully amongst rolling hills and areas of outstanding natural beauty.
ThunderCat Racing is one of the world's most exhilarating water sports. The primary purpose of a ThunderCat is surf racing and they race at high speeds in the surf of up to 5 metres and wind speeds up to 45 knots. Crews consist of a driver and a co-driver. The driver drives from the rear of the ThunderCat, while the co-driver uses his weight to adjust the trim of the boat. Surf racing usually takes place as close to the shoreline as possible, ensuring an amazing spectacle for those on the shore, and fabulous racing for drivers and co-drivers.
Fiona Pascoe, Director of the ThunderCat Racing UK said, ‘This is the first time that the tour has visited Perranporth We are so looking forward to racing on this renowned beach that is so iconic for surf. We are privileged to be here because motorised racing has never been held here before.’
‘Families can come down and watch all the racing for FREE. Spectators will be able to take some great pictures of the action whilst listening to some great commentary providing updates of all the racing thrills and spills!’
So going into the final rounds at Perranporth, Magor Racing are in a strong lead and in the modified championship, it couldn’t be any closer with just 3 points separating the top 3 teams.
Fiona added, ‘The local area will be represented on the water by The Cornish Vikings-Ahmad Tea team, who comprise of locals Matt Relton and Jason Wheeler. They are both members of the Perranporth Surf Lifesaving Club and are currently in their first season of racing in the sport…. so come and cheer them on! ‘
‘If you are a local company, why not get involved in the event? It’s never too late! Please email to discuss event sponsorship opportunities.’
