Saturday 30th September saw the Grand Finale of the 2017 RYA ThunderCat Racing P750 British Championships…the 100km Solent Long-haul!! The race was held from the shoreline of the River Hamble, Warsash with the headquarters located at the Rising Sun Inn.
The Solent was a hub of activity with 20 safety vessels, a helicopter, two doctors, one paramedic, four divers and a host of fantastic volunteers to facilitate the teams the opportunity to compete for the last race of the season.
In the end, 14 race boats competed, on a circuit course from Gurnard buoy down to Hurst Castle. Racing conditions were rough and a typical Solent chop, never knowing what direction the next wave was coming from. If you want to see how hard the racing was, have a look at Jerry Lake's photos (our photographer for the day) on his Flikr album ‘ThunderCats are Go' : https://www.flickr.com/photos/jerry_lake/albums/72157686784095140.
In the modified race, the team of Multispark Racing (Bligh Julius/Will Gawn) won with 51 Racing (Simon Harding/Mike Littler) second and Pro Marine (Lewis Huddy/Steve Putt) third.
There was only one finisher in the Prostock with Bulletproof 46 – Pulton Properties (Marc Newton/Tris Carpenter) completing the circuits.
Adjusting all the points, this led to the final standings for the championship.
1st Magor Racing
2nd Gemini UK
3rd Bulletproof-Pulton Properties
1st 51 Racing
2nd Ocean Racing - Team 55
3rd Broad bean
Fiona Pascoe, Race Director for ThunderCat Racing, said, ‘We wish to thank all those involved with the ThunderCat Racing Solent Long-haul who committed their time, experience and money to make this brilliant event happen. Who without, none could race and have the fun they had!’
Well done to all those that took part in this departure from our standard format of racing.
